Hire HVAC technicians
Name the equipment and the service route. A new-construction installer, a commercial service technician, and a facilities-shift hire need different experience.
Equipment and service territory
List the equipment families and building types the technician will support. Include the balance between installation, planned maintenance, and fault calls. Tell applicants whether they'll work under a lead or take a route independently.
For installation, describe the assigned equipment and the coordination with electrical, piping, ductwork, and controls crews. For service, include the territory, dispatch arrangements, supported equipment, and help available for difficult faults.
Verify credentials required for the location and duties. If you provide equipment training, name what the employee must already know and what they will learn with support.
Repeat faults and service notes
Ask about a repeat service call. What did the customer report, what did the candidate observe, and what narrowed the cause? Which work was completed, and what required another specialist or part?
Follow the answer into the record. What did the next technician know before the return visit? A service note should explain the current condition, completed checks, changes, and next step.
Use a fictional complaint if the applicant can't share a real example. Ask how they would distinguish equipment trouble from a controls or operating-condition issue. Keep the discussion on diagnosis rather than instructions for working on live plant.
Customers and appointment planning
Have the candidate explain an unresolved problem in plain language. What would they tell the customer, and what decision belongs to the office? Clarify whether quoting, selling work, or collecting payment is part of your position.
Ask about an appointment that couldn't be completed because of access, a missing part, or another trade. How did they inform dispatch and arrange the next step? These habits affect how many times the company visits the same job.
Construction and facilities roles
For a construction hire, discuss a drawing or equipment location that didn't fit the site. Who reviewed the change, and which records were updated? Identify the lead who checks the installation.
For a facilities role, state the shift, maintenance duties, escalation contacts, and handoff expected. Data-center cooling covers that equipment and setting. Controls technicians covers the separate controls assignment.
Hours, tools, and pay
Publish the reporting point, normal hours, on-call rotation, travel, vehicle, tools, pay range, benefits, expenses, and training arrangements. Explain the actual workload and technical support.
Post the HVAC opening. Use sheet-metal workers for the duct fabrication or installation crew rather than bundling that job into a generic technician title.
