- Lay out, install and terminate conduit, cable, boxes, panels, devices, lighting and equipment within the assigned scope.
- Test circuits and equipment with the appropriate meters, and document results and corrections.
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults, explaining the cause and the fix to the supervisor or customer.
- Follow lockout/tagout, energized-work and site safety procedures, and stop work when conditions are unclear.
- Coordinate sequencing and access with other trades and the site supervisor.

Required vs. preferred
Required
- [Exact electrical license or registration required for this location and work], current and verifiable.
- [Number] years of [commercial / residential / industrial / service] electrical experience on work similar to ours.
- Ability to read the drawings and technical documents used on our projects.
- Safe work habits, including lockout/tagout and use of test equipment.
- [Driver's license and insurable driving record, if the job includes a company vehicle.]
Preferred
- Experience with [specific systems, such as fire alarm, controls, generators or EV charging].
- [OSHA 10 / OSHA 30 / NFPA 70E training] completed within [timeframe].
- Experience leading a small crew or directing an apprentice.
Keep the required list short. Every extra requirement filters out people who could do the job.
Setting the pay range
Post a real hourly range. Applicants compare the number before they read the duties. Set the range by license level and local market, then add overtime, per diem and shift terms separately from base pay.

Screening questions
Ask about a real job, the person's own part in it and how they checked the result.
-
Walk me through the last job you worked on from start to finish. What did you install yourself?
Listen for: Specific systems, the person's own tasks versus the crew's, and how the work was checked.
-
A circuit you just installed trips as soon as it's energized. What do you check, in order?
Listen for: De-energizing and verifying, isolating the fault, testing with the right meter, and documenting the cause.
-
Which license do you hold, where was it issued and when does it expire?
Listen for: A clear answer you can verify with the issuing board, and honesty about any limits on the license.
-
Tell me about a time the drawings didn't match the field. What did you do?
Listen for: Stopping to ask, documenting the conflict and getting a decision before installing.
