Hire telecom designers and RCDD specialists
Hire for the drawings and decisions your installers need. Define the design package, field coordination, and technical review before making a credential the whole job description.
Telecom design and RCDD requirements
Describe the buildings or network, systems, project stage, and documents the hire will produce. Include pathways, rooms, cable and equipment schedules, details, or route information where they belong to the assignment.
State whether the designer develops the solution, produces drawings from another person's design, or reviews a contractor's work. If the contract requires an RCDD credential, name and verify it. Still ask what the candidate designed personally and how the project was built.
For outside-plant design, include surveys, route records, construction support, and field revisions. OSP hiring covers the associated field roles.
Drawing questions from the field
Ask about a design issue raised from site. What information did the candidate need, which options were considered, and who approved the answer? How did the revised document reach the installer and project manager?
Use a small fictional layout with an incomplete requirement. Have the candidate explain the questions they would ask before producing a design. You're checking how they resolve missing information, not asking them to do unpaid design work for an active project.
If they can share a permitted redacted example, ask them to walk through one detail and its related schedule. Can another person follow the requirement without the designer standing beside them?
Coordination with other disciplines
Discuss a pathway or equipment-room conflict. How did the candidate work with architectural, electrical, mechanical, and network requirements? What changed in the drawings or materials afterward?
Find out how they track open questions and review comments. A comment left unresolved at issue can become a field delay. Ask which person owned the final answer and how the team knew it was settled.
Design and drafting duties
Name the software and file standards your team actually uses. Distinguish technical design from CAD production and model coordination. Use the BIM/CAD guide if that is the main assignment.
For an engineering position, identify technical responsibility and the required qualifications separately. Electrical engineers covers power and building electrical design.
Deliverables, authority, and pay
Include project types, deliverables, design authority, reviewer, credentials, experience, software, field visits, reporting line, hours, location, travel, pay range, benefits, and equipment.
Post the telecom design vacancy. For the person pricing the package, use low-voltage estimators.
