Google lists Lincoln's data center as online in 2026
The Nebraska opening marks a change in project stage. Google’s statewide investment figure covers three communities, not Lincoln alone.
Google lists its Lincoln data center as coming online in 2026. The owner's Nebraska timeline provides the year of the milestone, but not an exact opening day.
For contractors, that means the story has moved beyond the original development announcement. Work at an operating facility needs a current scope, rather than an assumption that the first build is still open for bids.
The Nebraska total is not a Lincoln contract
Google's Nebraska page reports more than $15 billion invested in the state since its first Papillion campus. It covers Lincoln, Omaha and Papillion together.
The page dates Papillion's development to 2019, Omaha's to 2022 and Lincoln's announcement to 2023. Its $1.2 billion investment announcement is also dated 2023 and covers growth in all three communities. That older figure should not become a new 2026 Lincoln construction budget.
An opening changes the work boundary
Electrical and communications firms seeking follow-on work need to identify whether a package is maintenance, an addition, equipment replacement or customer-system installation. Each has a different schedule and access requirement.
For fiber and rack crews, ask who owns the installation and acceptance. An online campus can still have later equipment work, but the opening itself does not prove any rack order is available.
For electricians, obtain the approved work plan before pricing an assignment that connects to operating systems. The cost and crew needed for that job cannot be read from Google's statewide investment total.
The useful lead
Google provides an owner-confirmed operating milestone and a history that distinguishes the three locations. The page does not publish a Lincoln trade workforce, remaining awards or hourly wage.
A worker evaluating a facilities or construction role can compare the actual offer with the Nebraska electrician pay report. Check the duties as well as the wage. An operations job and a construction assignment at the same address are different kinds of work.
