Amazon lists active construction at its Salem Township campus

The Pennsylvania project page lists 20 planned data centers, while commissioning dates remain unsettled.

Project fact card: Amazon lists active construction at its Salem Township campus

Amazon's Salem Township data center expansion is listed as active construction on the Pennsylvania Chamber's project site. The campus plan anticipates 20 data centers and roughly 1,000 permanent jobs when fully built.

For a Pennsylvania electrical or low voltage shop, the useful detail is what the page leaves open: building commissioning dates are still marked to be determined.

Where the work stands

The project page places the campus in Luzerne County and lists 1,200 acres. Its timeline says construction started in October 2025. It provides no firm date for commissioning the expansion or bringing its buildings into operation.

Amazon's broader commitment is at least $20 billion across Pennsylvania. That statewide figure is not a disclosed Salem Township construction budget.

The same page refers to an existing operating Amazon facility. Existing operations and the larger expansion can occur together. The operating facility is not evidence that all planned buildings are complete.

Why commissioning matters to a crew

A shop can bid installation before it knows the final turnover date. That creates a problem if staffing assumes that the same people will remain available for testing and punch work months later.

An electrical contractor needs a schedule by building and system, plus the acceptance boundaries between utility service, distribution and owner equipment. A communications contractor needs pathway and room readiness dates. A rack deployment firm needs the owner's equipment delivery plan. An undated campus timeline cannot replace those schedules.

The work outside the buildings

The project page describes coordination for a temporary traffic light on Route 11 and water supply involving Talen Energy's existing infrastructure. It also presents outside-air cooling as the expected method for most of the year.

These are project planning statements. They do not identify an unawarded signal, water or electrical package. Firms following those scopes need the purchasing organization and approved documents before treating them as bid leads.

Hiring impact

The permanent-job forecast says little about near-term construction demand. The public page does not publish a current trade count, available electrical packages or wages. Its active-construction status is a reason to investigate the work, not a promise of an opening.
