Virtua tops out its Camden hospital pavilion

Virtua placed the final structural beam on its new Camden patient tower on June 9. The Marvin Samson Pavilion at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital is part of a $500 million renovation and expansion program.

The nearly 200,000-square-foot addition is planned for completion in spring 2028. For electrical and low voltage firms, topping out establishes structural progress while system installation and acceptance remain separate milestones.

The clinical scope

Virtua's report lists 78 private patient rooms, ten operating rooms including two hybrid suites, eight cardiac catheterization labs and three electrophysiology labs. The seven-story pavilion will attach to the existing hospital and become its main entrance.

Other renovations are happening across the hospital. The total program budget therefore should not be assigned entirely to this one tower.

Why the connection matters

A contractor needs to know how the addition connects to existing hospital services. The main-entrance role also makes access and transition dates part of the work plan, rather than an issue left for the final week.

Electrical and controls crews need the equipment schedule for the surgical and cardiac areas. Communications, fire alarm and security firms need interface responsibilities across the new and existing buildings. The scope should name who supplies, installs, tests and accepts each system.

Structural completion does not prove that any of those rooms are ready for equipment or occupancy. It also does not establish which remaining contracts are available.

Hiring evidence

The release does not publish an electrician-only workforce, open bid list or project wages. Its education and workforce development gift is a separate philanthropic commitment, not a trade hiring budget.
