TerraPower receives NRC construction approval in Wyoming
The March approval advances the Kemmerer reactor project. It authorizes construction, while operation requires a later licensing step.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved construction of TerraPower's Kemmerer project on March 4. The agency subsequently recorded issuance of construction permit CPAR-1 on March 9 to US SFR Owner, a TerraPower subsidiary.
The approval advances a Wyoming power project that electrical and controls firms should track separately from data center campuses.
What the approval means
The NRC's announcement concerns a sodium-cooled advanced reactor near an existing coal-fired power plant. TerraPower submitted its application in March 2024.
The agency's permit record authorizes construction of Kemmerer Power Station Unit 1. Construction authorization and permission to operate are separate milestones. This article does not establish that the unit has an operating license or is generating power.
It also does not claim that the reactor is supplying a particular data center. A construction approval by itself does not identify a power customer.
The contractor impact
Approval removes an important regulatory barrier. A trade firm still needs an awarded package, procurement requirements and a mobilization date before committing people.
Electrical and controls work on a nuclear project also needs a clear quality and acceptance scope. A shop should establish the records, qualifications and system boundaries required by the buyer. Those obligations affect the staff needed to perform and close out the work.
The permit milestone does not publish a current electrician count, open trade bids or project wages. It should therefore enter the contractor's pipeline as a verified regulatory advance, with construction progress checked through later owner and contractor records.
For an actual offer, use the Wyoming pay report as a market reference. The contract and employer must establish the assignment's requirements and terms.
