Crews had completed all 1,728 geothermal wells for the new University of Maryland Shore Regional Medical Center by its June 9 county briefing. They were connecting the system to the hospital's central utility plant.

That is a specific construction milestone for electrical and controls firms. It marks the move from field infrastructure toward the plant that will serve the new hospital.

Plant connections and building enclosure

Talbot County's meeting report records the update from Shore Regional Health president Ken Kozel. He said concrete floor slabs for the six-story east tower and five-story west tower were expected to be complete by the end of June.

Exterior panels were being installed, with enclosure anticipated by year-end. The facility could begin receiving patients in late summer or early fall 2028.

Those future dates were estimates in the June briefing. The report does not prove that every slab is now complete or that the building has reached enclosure as of October 1.

The controls scope is the useful question

A completed well field and a plant connection do not establish that a heating and cooling system has passed acceptance. Contractors need the issued controls sequence, point list and testing plan for the plant and hospital together.

Identify who provides power and controls wiring to each item, who programs the system and who resolves defects found during tests. For commissioning firms, obtain the actual schedule and the prerequisites for each test. The 2028 patient target alone cannot define those assignments.

Building enclosure also affects when equipment and interior systems can be installed. The field plan should use the current area-release dates, rather than a hospital-wide completion estimate.

The replacement affects more than the new site

The county report says Shore Regional Health entered a purchase and sale agreement for the current Easton hospital on South Washington Street. Ownership transfer is expected after the move to the new medical center, with sale proceeds applied toward construction costs.

That creates a transition between properties. It does not establish a separate demolition or redevelopment contract at the old hospital.

For electrical and communications firms, follow the new facility's plant, enclosure and clinical-transfer milestones. The briefing supplies no trade hiring count, remaining awards or project wage. The Maryland electrician pay report can help compare an actual assignment when those details are known.
