Micron sets separate wafer targets for its two Idaho fabs
The July owner update targets first output in 2027 and 2028. Each fab needs its own construction and equipment schedule.

Micron's Idaho expansion has two production targets. In its July 9 update, the company expected first wafer output from the first fab in mid-2027 and from the second in late 2028.
For a Boise industrial contractor, those dates point to separate construction and equipment sequences. They should not be treated as one campus-wide crew assignment.
What the owner confirmed
Micron's national investment update describes rapid Idaho progress alongside projects in New York and Virginia. Its more than $250 billion planned U.S. investment through 2035 covers the broader program. It is not a disclosed construction budget for one Boise fab.
First wafer output is a manufacturing milestone. Construction systems and equipment must reach the required state before that output can occur, but the release does not provide a trade-by-trade schedule.
Why the distinction matters
An electrical contractor needs to know which fab and which system it is bidding. A crew installing building distribution may finish on a different date from the crew connecting production equipment or supporting startup.
Controls work also needs a scope that names the interfaces and acceptance process. A production target does not tell a shop when its equipment will arrive or how long its technicians must remain available.
With two fabs on different dates, a contractor may be asked to move between areas or commit staff to overlapping phases. That should be established from the buyer's schedule, not inferred from the national investment total.
What we cannot count from this release
The update does not isolate current Idaho construction employment, electrician vacancies or wages. Its nationwide job projections include other locations and kinds of employment.
