Kaiser Permanente is building an all-electric hospital at Sacramento's Railyards, with opening planned for 2029. The owner lists 947 miles of cabling for the medical center project.

That is a substantial electrical and communications scope. It is not a measurement of cable already installed, and the owner's page does not split the total between power and low voltage systems.

Three buildings, several kinds of work

The Railyards project page describes an eight-story, 662,050-square-foot hospital, a five-story, 173,000-square-foot medical office building and a seven-story parking garage with 1,500 spaces.

The hospital is planned for 310 private rooms, 70 emergency treatment bays and 14 operating rooms. The campus at 365 Railyards Boulevard also includes imaging, laboratory and pharmacy services.

For estimating, each building needs its own scope and sequence. A parking garage's lighting, access and security work is different from clinical equipment connections in a surgical area. The combined campus totals do not settle how the contracts are divided.

All-electric design changes the coordination

Kaiser's April 16 report confirms the Sacramento and San Jose hospitals were under construction. It says the facilities eliminate natural gas for heating and cooling and identifies Arup as a firm that helped design them.

Electrical and controls contractors should obtain the issued equipment schedule and system sequences. The design label makes those documents more important; it does not tell a bidder the feeder sizes, control points or acceptance requirements.

The April report's projected reduction of about eight million pounds of annual air pollution covers both new hospitals together. That forecast should not be presented as a measured Sacramento result or evidence that construction itself has no emissions.

A replacement has a transfer schedule

The Sacramento project will replace Kaiser's roughly 60-year-old Morse Avenue hospital about seven miles away. That makes readiness for clinical equipment and staff training part of the schedule, alongside construction completion.

For communications firms, define when the network must support those activities and who accepts it. For electrical firms, distinguish initial equipment startup, system testing and clinical handover. A 2029 opening target is too broad to staff any one of those assignments.

What the cable figure can and cannot tell a crew

The 947-mile figure establishes the owner's stated scale. It does not identify an unawarded cabling package, a count of installers or an hourly wage. A contractor still needs the route drawings, cable types, termination scope and test requirements before estimating labor.

This is a confirmed hospital build with a specific electrical design and substantial published system scope. Follow the actual procurement schedule. Workers evaluating a site assignment can use the California electrician pay report to compare an offer, then account for travel and the job's duration.
