Baptist Health starts its Sunrise hospital build
The Florida project combines a seven-story hospital, medical offices and parking, with a 2029 opening target.
Baptist Health marked the start of construction on its Sunrise hospital on January 28. The seven-story, 340,000-square-foot facility is expected to open in 2029, becoming the health system's first hospital in Broward County.
For a South Florida contractor, the project includes more than inpatient rooms. Medical offices, parking and digital systems create scopes that need separate schedules and buyers.
What is planned
The owner's release lists 100 inpatient beds at full capacity, a 30-bed emergency department and four surgical suites with room to expand. The site at 12401 West Oakland Park Boulevard also includes a 25,000-square-foot medical office building and a five-story parking garage.
Baptist describes robotic-assisted surgery and digital integration with its broader network. Those are planned features. The groundbreaking does not establish that the systems are installed or operating.
The electrical and communications work
An electrical firm's package should identify which structures it serves and how their turnover dates relate. A medical office building or parking garage can have a different completion sequence from the main hospital.
For a voice and data contractor, the connection to the broader Baptist network makes interface ownership important. Get the room readiness dates, equipment responsibilities and testing requirements. A statement about digital integration cannot replace that scope.
Fire alarm and security firms need the same boundaries across the hospital, offices and parking. An estimator should not assume all site systems belong to one contract.
What the release does not establish
The owner does not provide a current construction headcount, electrician vacancies or a wage scale. Its system-wide employee count covers Baptist's existing healthcare operations, not the people building this hospital.
The confirmed lead is a construction start and a defined campus plan. Before hiring, obtain the actual work area and phase duration from the firm buying the package. Compare the terms with the Florida pay research, without treating a 2029 opening as a promise of three years on one assignment.
