What You’ll Do as a Journeyman Electrician

As a Journeyman Electrician at Prime Partners, you’ll play a crucial role in our multi-year projects based in Christiansburg, VA, with additional work in nearby areas such as Blacksburg, Radford, and Pulaski. Your primary focus will be on ensuring the electrical components of our projects meet the highest standards of quality and safety. You’ll be working on multi-family remodels and senior housing retrofits, using your expertise to navigate the complexities of electrical systems.

Your Daily Tasks as a Journeyman Electrician

Your day-to-day work will involve a range of practical tasks essential to the successful completion of our projects. You will:

• Perform electrical work on multi-family remodels and senior housing retrofits.
• Install and update service panels, ensuring all systems are up to code.
• Terminate circuits, mount electrical boxes, and run EMT and MC cable.
• Supervise apprentices, providing guidance and ensuring quality workmanship.
• Follow National Electrical Code (NEC) and Virginia-specific electrical codes to maintain compliance.
• Communicate effectively with project managers to ensure projects stay on schedule.
• Retrofit outdated electrical systems to meet current code requirements.
• Maintain safety standards in occupied housing units.
• Complete work on prevailing wage projects under HUD/MSHDA guidelines.
• Conduct troubleshooting and repair of electrical systems as needed.
• Perform regular inspections to ensure the integrity and safety of installations.

What You Need to Be a Journeyman Electrician

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• A valid Virginia Journeyman Electrician License.
• A minimum of 5-7 years of residential field experience.
• Strong knowledge of the NEC and Virginia electrical codes.
• The ability to read and interpret blueprints and scopes of work.
• Previous experience working on federally-funded or prevailing wage projects.
• Your own set of hand tools and personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Reliability, detail orientation, and the ability to train junior electricians.
• Hands-on abilities such as troubleshooting, problem-solving, and ensuring code compliance.

At Prime Partners, we offer a competitive salary range of $32.22 to $33.02 per hour, depending on experience.
