Apprentice Electrician at Prime Partners

About Our Apprentice Electrician Team

At Prime Partners, we take pride in building a reputation throughout Hermosa Beach, CA, and the surrounding South Bay communities as a dependable, detail-driven electrical contractor that gets the job done right the first time. As a Senior Apprentice Electrician with 20 years of experience in the field, I can say with confidence that working here means being part of a team that values craftsmanship, safety, accountability, and steady growth. Our Apprentice Electricians support a wide range of construction projects, from tenant improvements and commercial remodels to new construction, service upgrades, panel work, lighting systems, and rough-in installations. We regularly work in Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Torrance, El Segundo, Gardena, Hawthorne, and other nearby cities across the South Bay and greater Los Angeles area. The work is fast-paced, hands-on, and highly collaborative, and it demands people who are serious about learning the trade and contributing to a professional construction crew.

The Apprentice Electrician Position

An Apprentice Electrician at Prime Partners is more than just a helper on the jobsite. This role is an active part of our electrical construction team and is essential to keeping projects moving safely, efficiently, and on schedule. Day to day, you will work alongside journeyman electricians, foremen, and site supervisors to support the installation of electrical systems in commercial and construction environments. That includes assisting with rough-in work, material staging, conduit installation, wire pulls, device installation, and general site preparation. You’ll be expected to show up ready to work, follow direction closely, and develop the habits that make a strong electrician: attention to detail, respect for the jobsite, and a commitment to quality.

Our Apprentice Electricians work in a variety of environments, including active commercial builds, occupied tenant improvement spaces, multi-unit developments, retail spaces, office remodels, and exterior site work. Because our projects are construction-focused, the pace can change quickly, and you must be able to adapt to evolving schedules, changing site conditions, and coordination with other trades. You’ll be part of a structured team where supervision is clear and communication matters. Apprentices are guided by experienced electricians who teach proper methods, safe work practices, and the practical skills needed to advance in the trade. At Prime Partners, we don’t just want you to complete tasks—we want you to build a future. For the right person, this position can lead to increased responsibility, higher-level technical work, and a long-term career path within our company.

Core Apprentice Electrician Responsibilities

As an Apprentice Electrician, your core responsibilities will center on supporting the installation and organization of electrical systems throughout the construction process. You will assist with conduit runs, wire pulls, box installation, and jobsite prep. You’ll help bend EMT under supervision, route MC cable, and support the layout of electrical pathways based on drawings, direction from lead electricians, and site conditions. You’ll also organize materials, maintain tools, keep work areas clean, and follow all safety procedures and company standards. A strong apprentice understands that a clean, organized jobsite is a productive jobsite.

Additional technical duties may include assisting with:

  • Setting and securing hangers, supports, and strut for conduit and cable systems
  • Pulling branch circuits, home runs, and feeder conductors under supervision
  • Installing and labeling electrical boxes, fixtures, switches, receptacles, and devices
  • Supporting panel prep, circuit identification, and basic terminations as assigned

On regional projects in Hermosa Beach and nearby coastal communities, you may also encounter retrofit work in occupied buildings, tight access areas, and projects where coordination with other trades is critical due to limited staging space and active tenant operations. In South Bay construction environments, weather exposure, dust control, and site logistics are part of the job, so adaptability is important.

Safety is non-negotiable. Apprentices must follow lockout/tagout procedures, maintain proper PPE usage, respect energized work boundaries, and report hazards immediately. You’ll be expected to understand ladder safety, fall protection requirements, proper lifting techniques, and the importance of keeping cords, tools, and materials arranged to prevent trips, falls, and damage. Electrical construction requires focus and discipline, and we expect every team member to protect themselves, their coworkers, and the jobsite.

Required Experience & Skills

We are looking for an Apprentice Electrician with 1–3 years of electrical or construction experience and a strong desire to continue learning the trade. This role is ideal for someone who already understands jobsite expectations and is ready to build a deeper technical foundation. You must be willing to take direction, ask questions when needed, and apply feedback quickly. Dependability matters just as much as skill—strong attendance, punctuality, and reliable transportation are essential because our projects depend on crews that show up prepared every day.

Required experience and skills include:

  • 1–3 years minimum experience as an Apprentice Electrician or in related construction work
  • Basic familiarity with electrical tools, materials, and jobsite procedures
  • Ability to read and follow instructions from foremen, electricians, and site supervisors
  • Comfort working in active construction environments with multiple trades on site
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn
  • Reliable transportation and consistent attendance

Preferred certifications and qualifications include:

  • Current or active electrical apprenticeship enrollment, if applicable
  • OSHA 10 certification or willingness to obtain it
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Basic CPR/First Aid awareness is a plus

Technical knowledge should include a basic understanding of conduit types, wire sizing concepts, box fill awareness, device installation basics, and general construction safety. You should also have familiarity with reading tape measures, identifying common hand tools, and understanding the difference between rough-in, trim-out, and final phase work.

Tools & Equipment

Our Apprentice Electricians use a mix of hand tools, layout tools, and jobsite equipment every day. Common tools include tape measures, lineman’s pliers, side cutters, needle-nose pliers, screwdrivers, nut drivers, torpedo levels, markers, utility knives, fish tape, wire strippers, and channel locks. Depending on the project, you may also use cordless drills, impact drivers, hole saws, knockout sets, benders, and test equipment under supervision.

Personal tools expected for the role typically include:

  • Basic hand tool set
  • Tool pouch or belt
  • Appropriate work boots
  • Flashlight or headlamp
  • Personal lock and tag, if required by site protocol

Prime Partners provides company-issued equipment as needed for project work, which may include specialized power tools, ladders, lifts, testing equipment, and job-specific materials. We also ensure apprentices have access to the equipment necessary to perform assigned tasks safely and efficiently.

Physical Requirements

This is a physically demanding construction role. Apprentice Electricians must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally move heavier materials with assistance or proper equipment. The work may require bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, standing for long periods, reaching overhead, and working in tight or awkward spaces. You may also be expected to work indoors and outdoors, in hot sun, coastal weather, dusty conditions, or active construction zones with changing site conditions.

Required safety gear includes:

  • Hard hat
  • Safety glasses
  • High-visibility vest or shirt when required
  • Gloves appropriate for the task
  • Long pants and durable work clothing
  • Steel-toe or approved work boots
  • Hearing protection when needed

Training & Development

Prime Partners is committed to developing skilled electricians, and our Apprentice Electrician mentorship program is built around hands-on learning, consistent coaching, and practical field experience. Apprentices are paired with experienced electricians who provide direct instruction on safe work methods, quality standards, blueprint basics, layout techniques, and installation practices. We believe the best way to learn the trade is by doing the work with the right guidance.

Training and development opportunities may include:

  • Blueprint reading and electrical layout training
  • Conduit bending and installation instruction
  • Wire pulling and terminations practice
  • OSHA safety training
  • Equipment and lift operation awareness
  • Certification support as available

The career advancement path is straightforward for motivated apprentices. As your skills grow, you can take on more complex tasks, move into higher-responsibility field roles, and build toward journeyman-level proficiency. We value people who want to stay and grow with the company, and we make every effort to help strong performers advance.

Compensation Package

Prime Partners offers a competitive hourly wage for experienced Apprentice Electricians, with a salary range of $33.15 to $36.70 per hour depending on experience, skill level, and overall fit for the role. We understand that skilled construction workers deserve fair pay for reliable, high-quality work, and we reward consistency and commitment.

Our compensation and benefits package includes:

  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Career advancement opportunities
  • Ongoing training and certifications
  • Overtime opportunities in accordance with project needs and labor requirements
  • Tool allowances or support for approved job-related tools, where applicable
  • Additional perks based on project assignment and company policy

Overtime is available when project schedules require it, and it is handled in compliance with applicable labor laws and company policy. We value hard work, but we also value planning and communication, so overtime is generally coordinated as part of the project schedule. Additional perks may include access to company-provided equipment, a supportive field team, and the opportunity to work on a steady pipeline of construction projects across the South Bay region.
