Apprentice Electrician at Prime Partners

About Our Apprentice Electrician Team

At Prime Partners, our Apprentice Electricians are part of a highly respected electrical construction team serving Compton, CA, and the surrounding communities with dependable, code-compliant, and high-quality work. With 20 years of experience in the field, I can say firsthand that the best electrical teams are built on consistency, safety, and pride in the craft—and that is exactly what we expect every day on our jobsites. Our reputation in Compton has been earned through reliable performance, strong communication with general contractors and project managers, and the ability to deliver clean, professional electrical installations on schedule. We work on a wide range of commercial and light industrial projects, including tenant improvements, warehouse buildouts, retail spaces, office renovations, multi-unit developments, service upgrades, panel replacements, lighting retrofits, EV charging infrastructure, and new construction electrical systems. Our crews also travel throughout nearby cities such as Carson, Long Beach, Lynwood, Paramount, Gardena, Torrance, Hawthorne, Downey, Bellflower, and Los Angeles, so flexibility and a strong work ethic are essential. If you want to build a real career in electrical construction and work with a company that values quality and growth, Prime Partners offers the kind of environment where dedicated apprentices can truly develop into skilled journeymen.

The Apprentice Electrician Position

As an Apprentice Electrician with Prime Partners, you will be part of the field team supporting the installation, layout, and completion of electrical systems across active construction sites. This is a hands-on role for someone who already has some electrical or construction experience and is ready to learn the trade the right way. On a typical day, you will work under the direction of a journeyman electrician, foreman, or lead installer, assisting with rough-in work, material handling, device installation, conduit support, wire pulling, and site cleanup. You will be expected to stay engaged, follow instructions closely, and contribute to the pace and quality of the project.

The environments you work in will vary depending on the job. Some days may be spent inside occupied commercial buildings with tight scheduling constraints and strict safety rules. Other days may involve open construction sites, exterior runs, rooftop equipment, utility rooms, parking structures, or warehouse interiors where coordination with other trades is critical. You may be working around framing crews, drywall contractors, plumbers, HVAC installers, and concrete teams, so communication and situational awareness matter. Because we operate across multiple cities in the Greater Los Angeles area, our apprentices need to be adaptable and prepared for different site conditions, access requirements, and project timelines.

Our team structure is built around training and accountability. Apprentices are supervised by experienced electricians who take the time to teach proper methods while ensuring the work meets spec, code, and company standards. You will not be expected to know everything on day one, but you will be expected to learn quickly, work safely, and take pride in doing things correctly. Prime Partners offers real growth potential for apprentices who show up consistently, work hard, and develop strong technical habits. As your skills increase, you can advance into more independent field responsibilities, take on complex tasks, and move toward higher-level apprentice milestones and eventual journeyman-level opportunities.

Core Apprentice Electrician Responsibilities

Your primary responsibility as an Apprentice Electrician is to support the electrical crew in completing safe, accurate, and efficient installations. This includes assisting with conduit runs, wire pulls, box installation, and general jobsite preparation. You will help bend EMT under supervision, route MC cable, and support the installation of receptacles, switches, lighting fixtures, junction boxes, and other electrical components as directed by the lead electrician. You will also be responsible for organizing materials, staging tools, keeping the work area clean, and making sure supplies are available when needed so the crew can stay productive.

In addition to these core duties, apprentices at Prime Partners will begin developing more advanced technical skills such as:

  • Assisting with panel terminations under direct supervision
  • Helping with circuit identification, labeling, and branch circuit organization
  • Supporting feeder installations and equipment connections
  • Learning how to verify layout, elevations, and device placement against plans and field conditions

Because we work on projects throughout Compton and neighboring cities, you may encounter a variety of regional construction conditions, including retrofit work in older buildings, tenant improvement projects with limited access, multi-story commercial buildouts, and fast-track schedules in busy urban areas. In Southern California, weather, logistics, and coordination with inspectors can affect workflow, so being reliable and adaptable is a major part of the job.

Safety is non-negotiable. You will be expected to follow all jobsite safety protocols, including wearing the proper PPE, maintaining clear walkways, using ladders correctly, observing lockout/tagout procedures when required, and keeping tools and cords in good condition. Apprentices must understand basic hazard awareness, including working around live panels only when authorized, keeping clear of moving equipment, and reporting unsafe conditions immediately. We expect every team member to protect themselves, their coworkers, and the integrity of the jobsite.

Required Experience & Skills

We are looking for candidates with 1–3 years of electrical or construction experience who are ready to grow in the trade. A successful Apprentice Electrician at Prime Partners should be willing to learn, take direction well, and stay focused even when the pace gets demanding. You must have basic familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and common construction practices, along with dependable transportation and a strong attendance record. Active jobsite environments are part of the role, so you should be comfortable working around dust, noise, varying temperatures, and multiple trades.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • 1–3 years of experience as an Apprentice Electrician or in related construction work
  • Basic understanding of electrical construction terminology
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a crew
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation
  • Ability to work in active commercial and construction environments

Essential certifications and requirements:

  • OSHA 10 preferred or willingness to obtain
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening, if required
  • Any state or apprenticeship program enrollment preferred, where applicable
  • CPR/First Aid certification is a plus

Required technical knowledge includes basic understanding of conduit types, wire gauges, device installation, circuit layout, tool safety, and general electrical construction terminology. You should also have a working knowledge of measurements, fractions, and the ability to read a tape measure accurately. Familiarity with blueprint basics is highly valued, even if you are still learning to interpret full electrical plans.

Tools & Equipment

Our Apprentice Electricians use a variety of tools daily to support installation and rough-in work. Common tools include tape measures, lineman’s pliers, diagonal cutters, needle-nose pliers, screwdrivers, nut drivers, wire strippers, levels, hammers, utility knives, torpedo levels, cordless drills, impact drivers, fish tape, conduit reamers, and basic hand benders. Depending on the task, you may also use stud finders, voltage testers, labeling tools, and measuring devices.

Personal tools required for the role typically include:

  • Tape measure
  • Lineman’s pliers
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Side cutters
  • Screwdriver set
  • Nut driver set
  • Utility knife
  • Torpedo level
  • Voltage tester
  • Tool pouch or belt

Prime Partners provides company-owned equipment for larger or specialized tasks, including ladders, conduit benders, power tools, pullers, lifts, testing equipment, and job-specific machinery. We also supply certain jobsite materials, safety gear when required, and access to tools that are maintained and inspected regularly to support safe and efficient work.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the physical ability to work in demanding construction conditions. Apprentice Electricians should be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally assist with heavier materials when team lifting is available. You will spend much of the day standing, walking, kneeling, climbing ladders, crouching, reaching overhead, and working in confined or elevated spaces.

Working conditions may include indoor and outdoor environments, unfinished structures, dusty areas, noisy job sites, and locations with limited climate control. You must be able to work safely around other trades and remain alert to changing site conditions. Required safety gear includes hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest when needed, gloves, work boots with proper traction, hearing protection, and any additional PPE required by the site or task.

Training & Development

Prime Partners is committed to helping apprentices build a real future in the electrical trade. Our mentorship program pairs newer apprentices with experienced electricians who provide on-the-job instruction, correction, and practical field guidance. You will learn how to work more efficiently, read plans, understand installation standards, and develop the habits that separate a good helper from a future journeyman.

Training and development opportunities may include:

  • Blueprint reading fundamentals
  • Electrical code awareness
  • Conduit bending instruction
  • Lockout/tagout and jobsite safety training
  • NFPA 70E awareness
  • OSHA training and refreshers
  • Manufacturer-specific installation training
  • Apprenticeship program advancement support

Career advancement at Prime Partners can lead from Apprentice Electrician to higher apprentice levels, then to Journeyman Electrician opportunities for those who continue to develop their skills, reliability, and technical knowledge. We want people who are serious about the trade and ready to build a long-term career.

Compensation Package

We also provide paid time off and holidays, because we understand that steady work and work-life balance matter. Apprentices who continue to grow with us will have access to career advancement opportunities, ongoing training, and support for additional certifications.

Overtime is available based on project demand, deadlines, and jobsite schedules. When overtime is required, it is handled in accordance with applicable labor laws and company policy. We value flexibility and reward team members who step up when the work calls for it.

Additional perks may include:

  • Tool allowances

  • Certification support
  • Opportunities for overtime
  • Exposure to diverse project types
  • A strong team environment
  • Career path development
  • Consistent work across the Compton region and surrounding cities

At Prime Partners, we are not just filling a slot on a crew—we are building the next generation of skilled electricians. If you are dependable, motivated, and ready to learn, this is the kind of opportunity that can help you turn experience into a lasting career in electrical construction.
