The Commercial Apprentice Electrician Position

As a Commercial Apprentice Electrician at Jonsson Electrical, your role will be multifaceted. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve assisting journeymen on commercial new builds, handling material, setting up tools, and maintaining cleanliness on the worksite. You will gain hands-on experience in conduit measuring/bending, MC routing, and fixture/controls preparation. You will also be involved in underground trenching/duct bank layout and service equipment staging under supervision. Core Commercial Apprentice Electrician Responsibilities

Beyond the basic duties, you will be expected to handle more advanced tasks specific to commercial projects. These may include planning and installation of electrical systems, troubleshooting and repair, and ensuring compliance with all safety and electrical codes. Safety is a top priority at Jonsson Electrical, and you will be expected to adhere strictly to all safety protocols, including practicing safe work habits and following lockout/tagout procedures.

Required Experience & Skills

To qualify for this role, you need a high school diploma or equivalent (or be enrolled and at least 16 years old). You must also meet the eligibility requirements to obtain a Utah Apprentice Electrician license, for which the company offers assistance. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are necessary, as is the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and use basic hand and power tools. You should be punctual, safety-minded, and eager to learn. Experience in a similar role is beneficial but not required.

Tools & Equipment

Our Commercial Apprentice Electricians frequently use a variety of tools such as conduit benders, wire strippers, multimeters, and power drills. You will be required to provide your own basic hand tools, but the company will provide all other necessary equipment.

Physical Requirements

This role is physically demanding, requiring frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs. You will often work in challenging conditions, including heights, confined spaces, and outdoors in all weather conditions. Personal safety gear, including hard hat, safety glasses, and steel-toe boots, is required.
