Residential Electrician Position Overview

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

As a Residential Electrician on our team, your day will be filled with a variety of tasks, from installing electrical systems in new homes to troubleshooting and repairing existing systems. You will be expected to manage your time efficiently, often juggling multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Collaboration is key, as you will frequently work with other tradespeople and contractors to ensure seamless project execution.

Core Residential Electrician Responsibilities

Your primary duties will include installing, maintaining, and retrofitting electrical systems in residential settings. Advanced Technical Duties

Regional Project Specifics

Given our work in Dearborn and surrounding cities, familiarity with regional building codes and standards is crucial. You will also often work on prevailing wage projects funded by state and federal programs, requiring strict adherence to compliance and reporting standards.

Safety Protocols

Safety is our top priority. You will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe job site, complying with NEC standards and state regulations, and participating in regular safety training sessions.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must hold a State of Michigan Journeyman Electrician License and have a minimum of 4-6 years of experience in residential installations and remodels. Experience with retrofitting legacy systems and familiarity with HUD or MSHDA project settings is preferred. Strong communication skills, the ability to work independently or as part of a team, and reliable transportation are essential.

Essential Certifications

  • State of Michigan Journeyman Electrician License
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification (preferred)
  • CPR/First Aid certification

Required Technical Knowledge

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics
  • Understanding of NEC codes and local regulations
  • Competency in using diagnostic and testing equipment

Tools & Equipment

Daily Tools

You will use a variety of tools daily, including multimeters, wire strippers, conduit benders, and power drills. Personal hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, and wrenches are expected to be provided by you.

Company-Provided Equipment

First Contracting supplies specialized equipment, including testing devices and ladders, ensuring you have the resources needed to perform your job efficiently.

Physical Requirements

Lifting Requirements

You should be comfortable lifting up to 50 pounds regularly and working in various physical positions, including standing, bending, and kneeling for extended periods.

Working Conditions

Expect to work in diverse environments, from construction sites to occupied residences. Weather conditions can vary, requiring appropriate attire and preparation.
