Journeyman Electrician Position Overview

First Contracting in Detroit, MI is in urgent need of a Journeyman Electrician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of electrical tasks, from retrofitting to troubleshooting hidden faults in older plaster or masonry construction, while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Must Haves for Journeyman Electrician

• 4-7 years experience as a Journeyman Electrician
• Current Journeyman license
• 4+ years in retrofit environments
• Mastery of residential/multifamily wiring methods (NM, MC, EMT)
• Ability to fish walls with minimal patching
• Proficiency with load calc, circuit tracing, insulation-resistant testing, and labeling standards
• Strong customer communication
• Capable of independent work and mentoring helpers

Key Journeyman Electrician Duties

The Journeyman Electrician will execute gut-rehab and light-turn retrofit scopes in apartment units and small residential complexes. The main tasks include replacing panels and risers, installing new subpanels and disconnects, and converting legacy lighting to dimmable LED with smart controls. The electrician will also add dedicated circuits for HVAC/heat pumps and laundry, install EVSE circuits in carports/garages, troubleshoot hidden faults in older plaster or masonry construction, perform punch-list corrections and closeout testing, and maintain a clean, resident-safe work area.
