What Your Week Actually Looks Like

At First Contracting, your week as a Journeyman Electrician is packed with dynamic and impactful work. You’ll dive into projects like multi-family remodels and senior housing retrofits. From installing and updating service panels to terminating circuits and running EMT and MC cable, your days are hands-on and rewarding. You’ll supervise apprentices, ensuring they learn and adhere to the NEC and Michigan electrical codes. Communication with project managers is key to keeping projects on track, especially when retrofitting outdated systems to meet code requirements. Safety is paramount, especially in occupied housing units. You’ll also engage in prevailing wage projects under HUD/MSHDA guidelines, which add a layer of responsibility and satisfaction.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

To thrive at First Contracting, you’ll need a valid Michigan Journeyman Electrician License and a minimum of 5 years in the residential field. While strong knowledge of NEC and Michigan codes is essential, your ability to read blueprints and scopes will set you apart. Experience with federally-funded or prevailing wage jobs is a plus. You’ll bring your own hand tools and PPE, and embody reliability, detail-orientation, and the ability to train junior electricians. Practical skills are valued over paper qualifications, and a proactive, team-oriented attitude will help you excel.
