Journeyman Electrician Position Overview

As a Journeyman Electrician at First Contracting, you will be immersed in a dynamic work environment, handling various responsibilities that ensure the safe and efficient operation of electrical systems. Your day-to-day tasks will include installing and maintaining electrical systems, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with a dedicated team of professionals. Team Structure and Supervision

You will work under the guidance of seasoned electricians and project managers, offering a structured support system while also supervising apprentices. This role provides a clear path for career growth, with opportunities to advance to senior roles and specialize in areas of interest.

Core Journeyman Electrician Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive electrical work on multi-family remodels and senior housing retrofits.
  • Install and update service panels, terminate circuits, and mount electrical boxes.
  • Run EMT and MC cable, ensuring all installations meet NEC and Michigan electrical codes.
  • Supervise apprentices on active job sites, providing mentorship and on-the-job training.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers to adhere to project timelines.
  • Retrofit outdated systems to comply with current codes, maintaining safety in occupied units.
  • Complete work on prevailing wage projects under HUD/MSHDA guidelines.

Advanced Technical Duties

  • Conduct advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic tasks using the latest technology.
  • Design and implement complex electrical systems for large-scale projects.
  • Ensure compliance with regional project specifics, adapting strategies to meet unique site requirements.
  • Rigorously adhere to safety protocols, conducting regular safety audits and training sessions.

Qualifications

  • Valid Michigan Journeyman Electrician License.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of residential field experience.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC and Michigan codes.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints and understanding project scopes.
  • Previous experience working on federally-funded or prevailing wage jobs.
  • Must provide own hand tools and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, with a proven ability to train junior electricians.

Essential Certifications

  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety Certification.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Specialized training in energy-efficient systems.

Tools & Equipment

  • Daily tools include multimeters, conduit benders, wire strippers, and voltage testers.
  • Journeymen must provide their own hand tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, and measuring devices.
  • The company provides advanced equipment like power drills and saws for specific tasks.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Work in various conditions including confined spaces and heights.
  • Safety gear includes hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots.
