Commercial Electrician Position Overview

First Contracting in Dearborn, MI is urgently seeking an experienced Commercial Electrician. This role will primarily involve leading electrical retrofits in occupied apartment towers and mixed-use buildings, as well as coordinating shutdowns, lockout/tagout, and tenant notifications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in multifamily and commercial retrofit projects, and be comfortable working with property managers and GC teams.

Must Haves for Commercial Electrician

• 5-8 years experience as a Commercial Electrician
• Valid Journeyman Electrician license and OSHA-10/30 preferred
• Proven experience in multifamily and commercial retrofit projects
• Expert at reading as-builts and tracing legacy circuits
• Strong conduit bending, pull/termination, and panelboard replacement skills
• Comfortable with scissor/lift work in occupied spaces
• Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70/72, and local retrofit permitting
• Excellent communication skills

Key Commercial Electrician Duties

• Lead electrical retrofits in occupied apartment towers and mixed-use buildings
• Replace aging switchgear and feeders
• Install conduit and MC in existing walls/ceilings with minimal finishes damage
• Upgrade common-area and garage lighting to networked LED systems
• Perform load calculations for amenity build-outs
• Coordinate shutdowns, lockout/tagout, and tenant notifications
• Integrate fire alarm, access control, and emergency egress upgrades
• Execute service relocations and meter bank additions
• Document as-builts and redlines
• Mentor apprentices on safe retrofit techniques
