What You’ll Do as an EV Power Systems Electrician

As an Electric Vehicle (EV) Power Systems Electrician at EV Careers in Monroe, LA, your primary role will be installing, maintaining, and upgrading electrical systems for EV charging stations. We’re currently involved in several city-wide projects to boost the EV infrastructure in Monroe, and you’ll play a key role in these initiatives. This role involves hands-on work at various project sites, where you’ll be dealing with everything from EVSE infrastructure to grid interconnections.

Your Daily Tasks as an EV Power Systems Electrician

Your daily tasks will vary depending on the project, but you can expect to install and configure power distribution systems for EV charging stations. This involves running conduit and wire to support load balancing and grid tie-ins, and monitoring electrical loads. You’ll ensure that all work is done in compliance with local and national electrical codes. Installing switchgear, transformers, and meters will also be part of your job. Coordination with utility providers is essential to ensure seamless integration of our EV charging stations into the existing grid. In addition, you’ll be responsible for supporting remote diagnostics and system upgrades.

Other common daily activities include troubleshooting and repairing electrical faults in the EV power systems, conducting routine maintenance checks, and training junior staff members on safe and efficient work practices. You’ll also assist in the preparation and updating of project schedules.

What You Need to Be an EV Power Systems Electrician

To qualify for this role, you must be a licensed journeyman electrician with at least 3-5 years of field experience, preferably in EVSE infrastructure and grid interconnection. You’ll need to be proficient in installing transformers and switchgear, and have strong wiring and installation skills. The ability to read one-line diagrams and permits is vital.

In addition, you should have completed OSHA safety training. Having a proactive attitude, good problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently are also important attributes for this role.
