What You’ll Do as an EV Power Systems Electrician

As an EV Power Systems Electrician, you will be at the forefront of the electric vehicle revolution. Our projects in Hattiesburg, MS, involve installing and maintaining power distribution systems for EV charging stations. The job involves practical, hands-on work in varied settings and you’ll need to have a solid understanding of electrical systems and codes.

Your Daily Tasks as an EV Power Systems Electrician

On a typical day, you’ll be installing and configuring power distribution systems for EV charging stations. This includes running conduit and wire to support load balancing and grid tie-ins. You’ll also monitor electrical loads to ensure systems are running effectively and safely.

Your role will require you to ensure that all work complies with local and national electrical codes. This involves installing switchgear, transformers, and meters, and coordinating with utility providers for grid interconnections.

In addition, you’ll support remote diagnostics and system upgrades to ensure the charging stations remain at peak performance. Other tasks include troubleshooting system faults and performing routine maintenance.

What You Need to Be an EV Power Systems Electrician

To succeed in this role, you must be a licensed journeyman electrician with at least 3-5 years of experience in the field. A detailed understanding of EVSE infrastructure and grid interconnection is essential.

You should have hands-on experience with transformers and switchgear, and strong wiring and installation skills. The ability to read one-line diagrams and permits is a must, as is OSHA safety training.

Being able to work independently and solve problems on-the-go will serve you well in this role.
