What You’ll Do as a Commercial Electrician

As a Commercial Electrician at EV Careers, you’ll be plunged into the heart of our operations in Columbia, SC. We’re currently engaged in several high-profile commercial projects around the city, and your skills will be vital to their successful completion. Your role will involve much more than just running wires; you’ll be a key part of the team, installing, testing, and maintaining complex electrical systems.

Your Daily Tasks as a Commercial Electrician

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include installing and maintaining electrical systems in commercial buildings. This means you’ll often be troubleshooting and repairing power distribution systems, ensuring all work complies with safety codes. You’ll also be implementing lighting control systems, planning and executing electrical upgrades, and managing materials and tools for projects.

Coordination with other construction teams will be a big part of your role, as will inspecting and testing installations for quality assurance. You’ll need to document your work progress and maintain detailed records of maintenance performed. As a seasoned electrician, you’ll also mentor apprentices and junior electricians, providing on-site technical expertise.

Occasionally, your skills will be needed for emergency power system installations. Finally, you’ll be expected to integrate energy-efficient solutions into your designs, helping our company and our clients to reduce their carbon footprint.

What You Need to Be a Commercial Electrician

To be a Commercial Electrician at EV Careers, you’ll need a relevant electrical certification or licensure. A strong understanding of commercial electrical systems is essential, as is the ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical diagrams.

You should have considerable hands-on experience with power tools and diagnostic equipment. Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving skills are a must, as is knowledge of safety protocols and building codes. You should be able to work both independently and as part of a team, with good communication and organizational skills.

Being physically capable of handling electrical tools and equipment is also necessary, as is having at least three to five years of field experience as a Commercial Electrician.
