Commercial Apprentice Electrician at Prime Partners

About Our Commercial Apprentice Electrician Team

At Prime Partners, our Commercial Apprentice Electricians are part of a field team that takes pride in delivering clean, code-compliant, and dependable electrical work across Inglewood, CA and the surrounding communities. We’ve built a strong reputation throughout the South Bay and greater Los Angeles area by showing up prepared, working safely, and supporting commercial construction schedules without cutting corners. Our apprentice electricians are essential on projects ranging from office tenant improvements and retail buildouts to schools, medical offices, warehouses, hospitality spaces, multifamily developments, and light industrial facilities. Inglewood is a fast-moving market with ongoing development, and our crews also travel regularly to nearby cities including Hawthorne, El Segundo, Torrance, Gardena, Carson, Culver City, Westchester, and Los Angeles. If you want to be part of a team that values craftsmanship, accountability, and steady growth in the field, Prime Partners is the place to build your career.

The Commercial Apprentice Electrician Position

As a Commercial Apprentice Electrician with Prime Partners, you will work alongside experienced electricians, foremen, and supervisors to help install, support, and complete electrical systems on active construction sites. This is a hands-on field position designed for someone who already has commercial electrical experience and is ready to keep building technical skill, speed, and independence. Your daily work will include assisting with conduit installation, basic conduit bends, material handling, wire pulls, box layout, raceway support, and general jobsite electrical tasks under the direction of a journeyman electrician or foreman. You’ll be working in a variety of environments, including new construction, tenant improvement, renovation, retrofit, and occupied-space projects where professionalism and attention to detail matter every day.

Our team structure is straightforward and built for learning. You’ll report to a foreman or lead electrician who will assign tasks, review work quality, and help you sharpen your understanding of commercial electrical systems. You’ll also work closely with journeymen who can show you efficient methods for layout, installation, and troubleshooting. We expect apprentices to ask questions, take direction well, and steadily increase their independence as they gain experience. At Prime Partners, we believe strong apprentices become strong electricians, and we invest in people who want to grow in the trade. For the right candidate, this position can lead to broader responsibilities, advanced technical work, and a long-term path toward becoming a highly skilled commercial electrician.

Core Commercial Apprentice Electrician Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll support commercial electricians with the day-to-day work needed to keep projects moving. That includes installing conduit, assisting with basic bends, staging materials, pulling wire, setting boxes, organizing tools, and helping with layout for receptacles, switches, lighting, panels, and other devices. You’ll assist with cable tray and raceway work, help maintain neat and accurate installations, and follow prints and field instructions with guidance from your supervisor. Keeping the jobsite clean, organized, and safe is part of the job, not an afterthought.

On many projects in Inglewood and surrounding areas, you may work on fast-paced commercial builds with tight deadlines, coordinated tenant improvements, or phased construction in occupied facilities. That means you’ll need to stay alert, communicate clearly, and adapt to changing site conditions. You may be asked to assist with rooftop equipment feeds, underground rough-in support, slab work, core drilling coordination, or final-stage trim-out tasks depending on the phase of the project.

Advanced technical duties may include helping with feeder installation, supporting panel and transformer placement, assisting in the setup of temporary power, learning how to read and interpret one-line diagrams, and assisting with device rough-in and terminations under supervision. You may also help with firestopping around penetrations, support grounding and bonding tasks, and participate in basic troubleshooting by identifying issues before they become delays. As your skills develop, you may take on more layout responsibility and more precise installation work with less oversight.

Safety is a core expectation on every Prime Partners jobsite. You will be required to follow all OSHA guidelines, site-specific safety rules, and direction from the general contractor and electrical leadership. This includes wearing proper PPE, keeping walkways clear, using ladders and lifts correctly, maintaining safe distances from energized equipment, and locking out/tagging out circuits when instructed and qualified to do so. You must be able to recognize hazards, stop work when conditions are unsafe, and work professionally around other trades in active construction environments.

Required Experience & Skills

We are looking for an experienced Commercial Apprentice Electrician with 2 to 4 years of electrical experience preferred, including some exposure to commercial work, conduit bending, and jobsite installation practices. This role is best suited for someone who already understands the pace and expectations of construction work and is ready to continue developing toward full commercial electrician capability. You must be able to follow direction, work as part of a crew, and contribute to a productive and respectful work environment.

Required certifications and qualifications include a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to arrive on time consistently. Depending on project requirements, you may also need a current OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification, and any additional site-specific safety training may be required before starting work. A current electrical apprenticeship enrollment or prior training experience is preferred where applicable. Candidates should have a working knowledge of commercial electrical terminology, basic blueprint reading, conduit types and fittings, wire sizes, device installation, and safe use of common electrical tools.

You should be comfortable using a tape measure, level, hammer drill, impact driver, conduit bender, reamer, fish tape, and other standard field tools. You should also understand basic jobsite organization, material staging, and how to support production without sacrificing quality. Strong communication, a willingness to learn, and a dependable work ethic are essential. We want people who are motivated to grow in the trade and take pride in doing the job right.

Tools & Equipment

Our Commercial Apprentice Electricians use a variety of tools daily depending on the phase of the project. Common tools include tape measures, levels, channel-lock pliers, lineman’s pliers, diagonal cutters, screwdrivers, nut drivers, wire strippers, conduit benders, reamers, fish tape, hammers, utility knives, drills, impact drivers, and basic hand tools for layout and installation. You’ll also use ladders, work platforms, and occasionally lifts or other access equipment when trained and authorized.

Personal tools are expected and should be maintained in good working condition. Apprentices should have a basic electrician’s hand tool set, including the tools listed above, along with a tool pouch or belt suitable for commercial work. Depending on the project, you may also need personal PPE such as hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, high-visibility vest, hearing protection, and work boots that meet site requirements.

Prime Partners provides larger job-specific equipment and materials as needed, including specialty power tools, testing equipment, lift access, and project-related tools that are not expected to be personally owned. We make sure our crews have the equipment necessary to work efficiently and safely, while still expecting each electrician to show up prepared with their daily hand tools and PPE.

Physical Requirements

This is a physically active construction position. Commercial Apprentice Electricians must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment commonly weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally more with team assistance. The role requires standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders, reaching overhead, and working in tight spaces for extended periods. You may work indoors and outdoors, in heat, dust, noise, and other typical construction conditions.

Because this is a jobsite-based role, you must be comfortable working around multiple trades, active equipment, changing site conditions, and varying schedules. Safety gear required for the position includes hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, high-visibility vest when required, long pants, and approved work boots. Additional PPE may be required depending on the task or site condition, such as hearing protection, fall protection, or arc-rated equipment when applicable.

Training & Development

Prime Partners takes training seriously. Our Commercial Apprentice Electricians are supported through on-the-job mentorship from experienced electricians and foremen who understand how to teach field skills the right way. You’ll learn practical installation methods, layout principles, code awareness, safety habits, and the workflow needed to become more efficient and independent over time. We want apprentices who are hungry to learn and ready to absorb knowledge from every project.

Available certifications may include OSHA training, lift training, CPR/First Aid, NFPA 70E awareness, and other job-related safety or technical programs depending on project needs. As you gain experience, you can advance into more complex responsibilities such as advanced conduit work, feeder installation, troubleshooting support, layout assistance, and eventually journeyman-level tasks. A strong performer can build a long-term career with opportunities for increased responsibility, higher pay, and leadership growth within the company.

Compensation Package

Prime Partners offers a competitive hourly wage of $33.40 to $38.32 per hour depending on experience. We value skilled, dependable apprentices and compensate accordingly. In addition to strong hourly pay, we offer paid time off, paid holidays, career advancement opportunities, ongoing training, and support for relevant certifications that help you grow in the trade.

Overtime is available based on project demands and schedule requirements, and eligible hours will be paid in accordance with applicable wage and labor laws. We understand that construction schedules can change, and we reward team members who step up when the job requires extra effort. Tool allowances may be available depending on assignment and project needs, helping you maintain the equipment you need to work efficiently.

Additional perks may include steady work in the Inglewood and greater Los Angeles market, exposure to a wide range of commercial project types, mentorship from experienced supervisors, and the opportunity to build a long-term career with a respected electrical contractor. If you’re ready to work hard, keep learning, and contribute to high-quality commercial construction, Prime Partners wants to hear from you.
