Apprentice Electrician at Prime Partners

About Our Apprentice Electrician Team

At Prime Partners, our Apprentice Electricians are part of a field team that takes pride in building the electrical backbone of some of the most active construction projects in Los Angeles, CA. With 20 years of experience in this trade and on job sites across Southern California, I can say with confidence that this is the kind of work that rewards discipline, curiosity, and a strong work ethic. We are known in Los Angeles for showing up prepared, working safely, and keeping pace with demanding schedules while maintaining high-quality electrical installation standards. Our crews support a wide range of commercial and construction projects, including tenant improvements, ground-up builds, warehouse facilities, multifamily developments, retail buildouts, office renovations, healthcare spaces, schools, hospitality projects, and light industrial work.

Our Apprentice Electricians regularly work throughout Los Angeles and the surrounding cities, including Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena, Torrance, Long Beach, Santa Monica, Culver City, Inglewood, Downey, El Segundo, Anaheim, Irvine, and the broader San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys. Because our projects are spread across the region, we need people who are dependable, adaptable, and ready to work in fast-moving environments. At Prime Partners, you will be joining a team that understands the demands of construction in Southern California: tight schedules, active coordination with other trades, strict safety expectations, and the need to deliver dependable electrical work on every phase of the job.

The Apprentice Electrician Position

The Apprentice Electrician role at Prime Partners is built for someone who already has some field experience and is ready to grow into a stronger, more capable electrical tradesperson. This is not a passive training position. You will be on active construction sites every day, supporting journeyman electricians, foremen, and superintendents while learning the practical skills that matter most in the field. Day to day, you will help with rough-in work, material handling, conduit installation, wire pulling, box mounting, equipment support, and general job site preparation. You will also be expected to stay organized, follow directions closely, and keep your work area clean and safe.

You can expect to work in a variety of environments, from open commercial shells and tenant improvement spaces to occupied renovations, multi-story buildings, parking structures, and exterior site work. In Los Angeles, that often means working around other trades in tight spaces, dealing with changing site conditions, and adapting to project-specific requirements such as seismic considerations, local code compliance, and coordination with inspectors. Some days you may be indoors in a conditioned office buildout; other days you may be outside in heat, dust, or wind while supporting underground work, rooftop equipment installation, or feeder runs.

Our team structure is clear and supportive. Apprentice Electricians work under direct supervision of experienced electricians and field leadership. You will receive instruction, correction, and hands-on guidance, but you will also be expected to listen carefully, retain what you learn, and apply it consistently. We value apprentices who take initiative without cutting corners. As your skills improve, you will be given more responsibility, more technical tasks, and greater opportunities to contribute to the pace and quality of the project.

Growth potential at Prime Partners is strong for the right person. We are always looking to develop dependable field talent into skilled electricians who can handle more advanced work and eventually move into lead roles. If you show consistency, safety awareness, and a willingness to learn, this position can be the start of a long-term career in electrical construction.

Core Apprentice Electrician Responsibilities

As an Apprentice Electrician, your core responsibility is to support electrical installation work safely, accurately, and efficiently. You will assist electricians with conduit runs, wire pulls, box installation, and job site prep. You will help bend EMT under supervision, route MC cable, and support rough-in activities that keep the project moving forward. You will organize materials, maintain tools, stage equipment, and make sure the work area remains clean and free of hazards. You will also begin learning blueprint reading, layout basics, and how to identify electrical symbols, device locations, and routing paths.

Additional technical duties may include:

  • Assisting with panel prep, breaker labeling, and equipment mounting support
  • Helping install hangers, supports, strut, anchors, and seismic bracing components
  • Pulling branch circuits and feeders while following proper wire-handling techniques
  • Supporting terminations, device make-up, and trim-out work under supervision when qualified

Because we work across Los Angeles and surrounding Southern California cities, your responsibilities may also include supporting work in multi-level commercial buildings, mixed-use developments, underground utility zones, and retrofit environments where access is limited and coordination matters. You may assist with job site logistics, material deliveries, and loading/unloading electrical equipment in busy urban areas where staging is tight and productivity depends on good planning.

Safety is non-negotiable. You must follow all job site safety procedures, including lockout/tagout requirements, ladder safety, fall protection, PPE use, tool inspection, and proper lifting techniques. You are expected to recognize hazards, report unsafe conditions immediately, and work in compliance with OSHA standards, company safety policies, and site-specific rules. Electrical work demands attention to detail and respect for the risks involved, especially when working around live systems, temporary power, overhead work, or active construction traffic.

Required Experience & Skills

We are seeking an Apprentice Electrician with 1–3 years of minimum experience in electrical or construction work. You should already have a basic understanding of how construction sites operate and be ready to build on that foundation. You must be willing to learn, take direction well, and contribute as a reliable member of the crew.

Required experience and skills include:

  • 1–3 years minimum experience as an Apprentice Electrician or in a related construction/electrical role
  • Basic familiarity with hand tools and power tools used in electrical work
  • Ability to read and follow instructions, drawings, and simple layout information
  • Strong attendance, punctuality, and dependable transportation to job sites
  • Comfort working in active construction environments with multiple trades present
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work as part of a team

Essential certifications and training include:

  • OSHA 10 Construction certification preferred or required depending on project
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • CPR/First Aid training preferred
  • Any current state or apprenticeship-related electrical training documentation
  • Ability to pass site-specific safety orientation and compliance requirements

Technical knowledge required for the role includes:

  • Basic understanding of electrical systems, materials, and terminology
  • Knowledge of conduit types, wire types, boxes, fittings, and common device components
  • Familiarity with safe ladder use, material handling, and job site housekeeping
  • Ability to identify and follow basic blueprint and layout information
  • Understanding of how to work under supervision while maintaining quality and safety standards

Tools & Equipment

Our Apprentice Electricians use a range of tools every day to support electrical installation work. Common daily tools include:

  • Tape measure
  • Linesman pliers
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Side cutters
  • Screwdrivers and nut drivers
  • Torpedo level
  • Utility knife
  • Hammer
  • Drill and driver
  • Fish tape
  • Conduit reamer
  • Voltage tester or non-contact tester when authorized
  • Marker, pencil, and chalk line tools

Personal tools expected for the role may include the basic hand tools above, depending on project requirements and company standards. You should be prepared to maintain your own hand tools in good working condition, keep them organized, and know how to use them safely and correctly.

Company-provided equipment may include:

  • Larger power tools
  • Specialty bending and pulling equipment
  • Ladders and lifts when assigned
  • Material handling equipment
  • Job-specific safety equipment
  • Testing and verification tools when required by supervision

Physical Requirements

This is a physically demanding construction position. Apprentice Electricians must be able to lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally more with assistance or proper equipment. You may be required to climb ladders, stand for long periods, kneel, crouch, bend, and work overhead throughout the day. The role also requires walking across active jobsites, navigating uneven surfaces, and working in tight spaces or unfinished areas.

Working conditions may include indoor and outdoor environments, exposure to dust, noise, heat, cold, and changing weather. You may work near other trades, around heavy equipment, or in areas with limited access. Because of these conditions, proper safety gear is required, including:

  • Hard hat
  • Safety glasses
  • High-visibility vest or shirt when required
  • Work gloves
  • Safety-toe boots
  • Hearing protection
  • Fall protection when applicable
  • Any additional site-specific PPE

Training & Development

Prime Partners is committed to helping Apprentice Electricians grow into stronger tradespeople. Our mentorship approach pairs you with experienced electricians who can teach practical field skills, explain why work is done a certain way, and help you build the confidence to take on more responsibility over time. We want apprentices who are eager to learn and serious about building a future in the electrical trade.

Training and development opportunities may include:

  • On-the-job mentorship from journeyman electricians and field leaders
  • Blueprint reading and layout training
  • Conduit bending and installation techniques
