What You’ll Do as a Residential Service Electrician

As a Residential Service Electrician at Mr Sparky in La Porte, TX, you’ll be at the front line of our services, keeping the lights on and the power flowing for our residential customers. Your work will be critical in maintaining the comfort and safety of homes in our community. Your daily tasks will range from troubleshooting electrical issues to installing new electrical systems and components.

Your Daily Tasks as a Residential Service Electrician

As a Residential Service Electrician, your day will typically start with handling service calls from our residential customers. You’ll diagnose electrical issues on-site, whether that means repairing or replacing breakers, switches, outlets, and fixtures, or troubleshooting power loss or code violations. Your job will also involve communicating your findings clearly to homeowners and generating work estimates.

Aside from these, you’ll perform safety inspections to ensure the electrical systems in homes are functioning properly and meeting code requirements. You’ll also install EV chargers and other emerging residential technologies, keeping our customers up-to-date with the latest electrical solutions.

In addition, you’ll be tasked with maintaining and updating electrical systems in older homes, as well as installing wiring and controls for newly constructed homes. You’ll also provide consultations for home renovation projects, advising homeowners on the best electrical solutions for their needs.

What You Need to Be a Residential Service Electrician

To excel in this role, you’ll need a current Texas Journeyman Electrician License and a minimum of 5 years of residential electrical experience. Your excellent diagnostic skills will be key in identifying and resolving electrical issues, and your comfort working directly with customers in their homes will ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.

A professional appearance and communication skills are must-have traits, as you’ll be representing Mr Sparky on every job. Experience with code corrections and real estate inspection punch lists is also crucial. Furthermore, you must be familiar with the residential permitting processes in Texas municipalities.
