What You’ll Do as an Electrician

As an electrician at Mr Sparky in Galveston, TX, you’ll be an integral part of our team, working on various commercial projects in and around the city. Each day, you’ll be dealing with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems. You’ll also be coordinating with other construction teams, planning electrical upgrades, and ensuring all projects comply with safety codes.

Your Daily Tasks as an Electrician

Your average day will be filled with a variety of tasks that include the installation and maintenance of electrical systems in commercial buildings. You’ll troubleshoot and repair power distribution systems and work on implementing lighting control systems. You’ll also ensure all work is compliant with safety codes and industry standards.

Planning and executing electrical upgrades will be a regular part of your role, as well as managing materials and tools for projects. You’ll coordinate with other construction teams, inspecting and testing installations for quality assurance. Documentation of work progress and maintenance records will also be part of your duties.

In addition to these tasks, you’ll be mentoring apprentices and junior electricians, providing on-site technical expertise. Your role will also involve supporting emergency power system installations and integrating energy-efficient solutions into designs.

What You Need to Be an Electrician

To be successful in this role, you’ll need a relevant electrical certification or licensure. A strong understanding of commercial electrical systems is crucial, along with the ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical diagrams. Hands-on experience with power tools and diagnostic equipment is a must, as is a solid foundation in troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Knowledge of safety protocols and building codes is essential, as is the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Good communication and organizational skills are also required. Physical capability to handle electrical tools and equipment is a must. In terms of experience, we’re looking for someone with 3-5 years in the field as an electrician.
