Core Residential Journeyman Electrician Skills

Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, completion of a 4-year apprenticeship and certificate, and a current Utah Journeyman 5504 Electrical License. Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code and residential wiring methods is crucial. The ability to read plans/specifications and produce neat terminations is required. Applicants must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license, own the required hand tools, and demonstrate a positive attitude, self-motivation, and teamwork.

Main Residential Journeyman Electrician Duties

Responsibilities include electrical installation for new-construction single-family and multi-tenant homes. Tasks include layout and rough/trim of devices and lighting, bending and installation of EMT/PVC/IMC as needed, and pulling/terminating branch circuits and feeders. You’ll install MC cable, fixtures, and smart/standard lighting controls, perform service equipment installs and grounding/bonding. Coordination with apprentices, general contractors, and inspectors is vital. Maintain clean, safe, code-compliant work areas. This role also requires the ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs and use common electrical tools daily.
