What You’ll Do as a Journeyman Electrician

In this role as a Journeyman Electrician at Jonsson Electrical, you’ll play a pivotal role in our ongoing residential and commercial projects in New Harmony. There’s no sugarcoating it; this job requires hard work, precision, and a solid understanding of electrical systems. Your typical day will involve a variety of tasks from setting up equipment to ensuring code compliance on electrical installations.

Your Daily Tasks as a Journeyman Electrician

As a Journeyman Electrician, your primary responsibilities will revolve around executing end-to-end electrical installations across a variety of projects, ranging from residential homes to commercial buildings and light industrial units. You’ll be responsible for setting up service equipment and raceways, installing MC/NM, panels, and lighting/controls. You will also assist with underground excavations and coordinate with utility providers.

Your role will also involve verifying code compliance and conducting thorough quality checks on all installations. You will work largely unsupervised, while also mentoring apprentices and imparting your knowledge and experience. Keeping a safe, organized jobsite and maintaining accurate material tracking is crucial to the role.

What You Need to Be a Journeyman Electrician

To succeed as a Journeyman Electrician, you’ll need a high school diploma or equivalent, and completion of a 4-year apprenticeship with a certificate. It’s important that you hold a current Utah Journeyman 5504 Electrical License and have a strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and electrical safety procedures.

Proficiency in reading blueprints and executing layout is crucial, along with excellent technical and interpersonal communication skills. You should have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, the ability to lift 50 lbs, and a complete set of hand tools. We expect at least 4-7 years of field experience in a similar role.
