The Residential Journeyman Position

As a Residential Journeyman on our team, your day-to-day responsibilities involve carrying out electrical work in various residential settings. You’ll be engaging in projects varying from small-scale home repairs to comprehensive renovations. You will work under the supervision of our experienced team leaders and alongside other skilled journeymen. Core Residential Journeyman Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities will include complete retrofit work in single-family homes and garden-style apartments. Tasks will range from replacing aluminum or knob-and-tube wiring, installing AFCI/GFCI protection and whole-home surge devices, upgrading main service and bonding/grounding, to adding circuits for kitchens, baths, and accessory dwelling units. You’ll also integrate battery backup or generator interlocks, perform detailed rough/trim in active remodels, coordinate with inspectors and other trades, and educate residents on safe system use. Your role involves advanced technical duties, regional project specifics, and strict adherence to safety protocols.

Required Experience & Skills

To join our team, a Journeyman license is a must, along with a deep understanding of residential retrofit codes and best practices. You should be comfortable operating in attics, crawlspaces, and finished spaces, and skilled at neat terminations and finish quality. You should be able to read remodel plans, produce accurate material takeoffs, and demonstrate strong safety habits and homeowner-facing professionalism. A minimum of 4-6 years of experience as a Residential Journeyman is essential, along with specific technical certifications.

Tools & Equipment

Our journeymen work with a range of specific tools daily, and you’re expected to have your personal set of essential tools. However, First Contracting will provide certain specialized and expensive equipment necessary for the job.

Physical Requirements

Our journeymen often deal with heavy lifting, so physical fitness is crucial. You’ll be working in various conditions, from construction sites to finished homes, and safety gear such as helmets, gloves, and safety shoes will be required at all times.

Compensation Package

We offer a competitive salary range of $33.79-$38.2 per hour depending on your experience. You’ll also enjoy paid time off, holidays, and numerous career advancement opportunities.
