What You’ll Do as a Residential Journeyman Electrician
As a Residential Journeyman Electrician at First Contracting, you’ll be instrumental in bringing our multi-year projects in Holt, MI, and surrounding areas such as Lansing, East Lansing, and Mason to life. Your role is crucial in ensuring that our residential projects are completed with the highest standards of safety and quality. Day-to-day, you’ll be involved in a variety of tasks, from installing and upgrading electrical systems to troubleshooting complex issues. Your expertise will be vital in enhancing the living conditions of our clients through efficient and reliable electrical solutions.
Your Daily Tasks as a Residential Journeyman Electrician
Full-Scope Electrical Work
In your role, you’ll perform comprehensive electrical work on residential retrofit and renovation projects. This includes installing electrical panels and lighting fixtures, ensuring all installations meet the necessary safety standards and codes.
Routing and Securing EMT/MC
You’ll be responsible for routing and securing Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT) and Metal Clad (MC) cables. Your keen attention to detail will ensure that all wiring is safely and efficiently installed.
Troubleshooting Circuit Issues
Identifying and resolving circuit issues will be part of your daily routine. You’ll use your problem-solving skills to diagnose electrical problems and implement effective solutions to ensure the safety and functionality of electrical systems.
Upgrading Electrical Systems in Senior Housing Units
You’ll work on upgrading electrical systems in senior housing units, ensuring they meet the latest standards and are safe for all residents. This requires a compassionate approach due to the nature of the environment you’ll be working in.
Mentoring Junior Electricians
Your experience will be invaluable as you mentor junior electricians, providing guidance and support to help them develop their skills and knowledge.
Ensuring Compliance and Coordination
You’ll ensure compliance with prevailing wage documentation and coordinate effectively with general contractors and inspectors to keep projects on track and within regulatory standards.
Additional Daily Activities
Other common tasks include performing routine maintenance checks, conducting safety inspections, and maintaining organized workspaces to enhance productivity and safety.
What You Need to Be a Residential Journeyman Electrician
Licensing and Experience
- Must be a licensed Journeyman Electrician in the state of Michigan.
- 5-7 years of experience in residential electrical work is essential.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong hands-on abilities in retrofitting outdated electrical systems.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on safety protocols.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for working in tenant-occupied units.
- Comfortable working within federal and state-funded housing programs.
