What You’ll Do as a Residential Journeyman

Welcome to First Contracting! As a Residential Journeyman, you’ll be a key player in our operations in Charlotte, MI, and surrounding areas such as Eaton Rapids, Potterville, and Olivet. Our projects span multiple years, focusing on residential electrical work. Your role is pivotal in ensuring the successful completion of these projects, from new builds to extensive retrofits.

Your Daily Tasks as a Residential Journeyman

Your day-to-day tasks will be diverse and hands-on. You’ll lead residential electrical projects across Michigan, ensuring that each task adheres to high standards of quality and efficiency. You’ll perform complete wiring retrofits on older structures, breathing new life into outdated systems. Supervising small crews will be part of your responsibilities, ensuring everyone works safely and efficiently.

Running conduit and terminating circuits will be routine, as will replacing outdated components to bring electrical systems up to code. Coordination with site supervisors is crucial to maintain the flow of the project and troubleshooting any on-site issues. Maintaining daily logs and ensuring compliance with safety standards is a given, as is your involvement in prevailing wage jobs, including renovations on senior housing.

In addition to these core activities, you’ll also handle the installation of advanced electrical systems like smart home technology, and ensure energy-efficient solutions are implemented. Your role will also involve collaborating with construction teams to integrate electrical systems seamlessly into the broader project framework.

What You Need to Be a Residential Journeyman

To thrive in this role, you must hold a valid Michigan Journeyman Electrician License and have at least 6 years of hands-on experience in residential construction and retrofits. Your ability to manage small teams will be crucial, as will your extensive knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and Michigan-specific codes.

Experience with government-funded construction work is beneficial, and you must have a clean driving record. Your own set of hand tools is necessary, as is the capability to work independently and to troubleshoot complex electrical issues.

Must-have skills include strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills for coordinating with teams and supervisors, and a proactive approach to safety and efficiency on the job site. Your hands-on abilities will be the cornerstone of your daily work, ensuring every task is completed to the highest standard.

Compensation
