What You’ll Do as a Residential Electrician

Welcome to First Contracting! As a Residential Electrician, you’ll be at the heart of our projects in Mason, MI, and surrounding areas like Holt, Okemos, and Williamston. Your role is crucial, as you’ll be responsible for bringing our residential projects to life. This is a hands-on position where you’ll work directly on the wiring and electrical systems that power homes. You’ll tackle new installations and engage in retrofitting projects, ensuring that every home you work on is safe and meets the highest standards.

Your Daily Tasks as a Residential Electrician

Each day brings new challenges and opportunities. Your primary tasks will involve installing, maintaining, and retrofitting electrical systems in residential buildings. You’ll pull wire, install outlets, switches, and lighting fixtures, and perform panel upgrades. You’ll often find yourself working in senior housing units, ensuring minimal disruption while occupied. Safety and cleanliness at the job site are non-negotiable, and you’ll adhere strictly to the National Electrical Code (NEC) standards and state regulations.

In addition to these core tasks, you’ll troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, interpret blueprints and technical diagrams to plan installations, and coordinate with other construction professionals to ensure seamless project execution. Your work will often be on prevailing wage projects funded by state and federal programs, which means attention to detail and a commitment to quality are essential.

What You Need to Be a Residential Electrician

To excel in this role, you must hold a State of Michigan Journeyman Electrician License and bring 4 to 6 years of experience in residential electrical installations and remodels. Your expertise in retrofitting legacy systems will be invaluable. Strong communication skills are a must, as you’ll need to discuss project details with team members and sometimes directly with homeowners. The ability to work independently or as part of a team is crucial, as is having reliable transportation.

Experience with HUD or MSHDA project settings is preferred, as these projects have specific requirements. Key skills include proficiency in using hand and power tools, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to interpret and follow technical documents and blueprints.

Compensation
