The Commercial Electrician Position

As a Commercial Electrician on our team, you will be responsible for executing complex electrical installations, upgrades, and repairs. Your day-to-day tasks will include diagnosing electrical faults, designing electrical systems, and maintaining electrical equipment. You will primarily be working on commercial projects, with occasional residential projects. You will work under the supervision of our Senior Electrician and in collaboration with other experts in the construction industry. The position offers significant growth potential within First Contracting, with opportunities to advance to a supervisory role.

Core Commercial Electrician Responsibilities

Your core responsibilities will include leading electrical retrofits in occupied apartment towers and mixed-use buildings. This includes replacing aging switchgear and feeders, installing conduit and MC in existing walls/ceilings with minimal finishes damage, and upgrading common-area and garage lighting to networked LED systems. You will also perform load calculations for amenity build-outs and coordinate shutdowns, lockout/tagout, and tenant notifications. In addition to these tasks, you will carry out advanced technical duties such as integrating fire alarm, access control, and emergency egress upgrades, executing service relocations and meter bank additions, and documenting as-builts and redlines.

Required Experience & Skills

The ideal candidate will possess a valid Journeyman Electrician license and OSHA-10/30 certification. You should have at least 5-8 years of experience as a Commercial Electrician, with a proven record of managing multifamily and commercial retrofit projects. Expertise in reading as-builts, tracing legacy circuits, and bending conduit is crucial. You should be comfortable working with scissor lifts in occupied spaces and have a thorough understanding of NEC, NFPA 70/72, and local retrofit permitting.

Tools & Equipment

You will frequently use tools such as multimeters, wire strippers, and pliers. You will need to have your own set of hand tools, while we will provide larger equipment such as power drills and conduit benders.

Physical Requirements

The role involves substantial physical activity, including lifting up to 50 lbs of equipment and working in confined spaces. It is essential that you are comfortable working in various conditions, ranging from outdoor sites to indoor construction areas. Protective gear, including hard hats, safety boots, and gloves, will be required.

Compensation Package

Our Commercial Electricians receive a competitive salary, ranging from $36.17-$38.82 per hour depending on experience.
