What You’ll Do as a Commercial Apprentice

As a Commercial Apprentice at EV Careers in Tampa, FL, you’ll be an integral part of our team working on commercial-grade electrical installations for electric vehicle (EV) systems. Our current projects are diverse and span across retail, hospitality, and industrial facilities. Your daily tasks will be hands-on, requiring both technical skills and physical labor. The role is challenging but rewarding, offering you the chance to gain invaluable experience and knowledge in the commercial electrical field.

Your Daily Tasks as a Commercial Apprentice

Your main responsibility will be to assist in the installation of EV electrical systems, which involves interpreting basic blueprints and layout plans, pulling wire through raceways, and installing low-voltage control wiring for smart EV systems. You’ll also be supporting panel upgrades and load center installations, requiring a good understanding of commercial wiring systems.

Maintaining accurate records of material use and time logs will also be part of your daily tasks, ensuring our projects stay on target in terms of budget and schedule. Learning commercial code requirements will be a constant part of the job, as will adhering to safety protocols at all times. Additionally, you’ll be troubleshooting and repairing electrical malfunctions, and providing support to our team of experienced electricians on-site.

What You Need to Be a Commercial Apprentice

As a prerequisite, we require completion of at least 1 year in an apprenticeship program and a good understanding of commercial wiring systems. The ability to read simple one-line diagrams is also essential, as is an OSHA 10-hour certification, although this is preferred rather than mandatory.

Attention to detail is key in this role, as well as the ability to follow instructions exactly. You’ll also need strong math and measuring skills, as these will be used daily throughout your work. If you have 2-5 years of experience in the field as a Commercial Apprentice, that’s even better, but we’re willing to train the right candidate.
