What You’ll Do as a Commercial Apprentice

As a Commercial Apprentice at EV Careers in Columbus, MS, you’ll be a crucial member of our construction team, immersed in our ongoing projects. This role is more than just assisting with tasks; it involves getting hands-on experience and learning the ropes of commercial electrical work. You’ll be working closely with our skilled electricians, involved in every step of our commercial electrical installations.

Your Daily Tasks as a Commercial Apprentice

As a Commercial Apprentice, you’ll be assisting in commercial-grade EV electrical installations across a range of environments, including retail, hospitality, and industrial facilities. Your role will include interpreting basic blueprints and layout plans, pulling wires through raceways, and installing low-voltage control wiring for smart EV systems.

You’ll also support panel upgrades and load center installations, and maintain records of material use and time logs. Learning commercial code requirements will be an important part of your role, ensuring our work is up to standard. You’ll also be expected to help manage the construction site, ensuring it’s kept clean and safe, and assist with the transportation and setting up of materials and equipment.

What You Need to Be a Commercial Apprentice

To be a successful Commercial Apprentice, you should have completed at least 1 year in an apprenticeship program. You should have a basic understanding of commercial wiring systems and be able to read simple one-line diagrams. An OSHA 10-hour certification is preferred, but not mandatory.

Your attention to detail and ability to follow instructions exactly are crucial for this role. Strong math and measuring skills are also necessary, as is a willingness to learn and develop your skills on the job. You should have 2-5 years of field experience as a Commercial Apprentice, with a focus on hands-on abilities.
