What You’ll Do as an Apprentice Electrician

As an Apprentice Electrician at EV Careers in Oak Ridge, TN, you’ll be immersed in a wide variety of tasks in the field of electric vehicle (EV) charging station installation and maintenance. Our work is hands-on, and no two days are exactly alike. From assisting in the installation of state-of-the-art EV charging stations to maintaining tools and worksite cleanliness, you’ll learn the ropes of this exciting industry under the guidance of experienced journeyman electricians.

Your Daily Tasks as an Apprentice Electrician

Your day-to-day role will be dynamic and varied. You’ll assist in installing and testing EV charging stations, pull wire and bend conduit under supervision, and maintain tools and worksite cleanliness. You’ll learn to read blueprints and circuit diagrams, and follow NEC guidelines for low-voltage and 240V installations.

Furthermore, you’ll attend weekly safety meetings and hands-on training sessions to keep your skillset sharp and up-to-date. A significant part of your role will involve shadowing journeyman electricians during EVSE installations and repairs, which will provide invaluable learning experiences. Additional responsibilities will include routine equipment maintenance and troubleshooting electrical issues.

What You Need to Be an Apprentice Electrician

As an Apprentice Electrician with EV Careers, you need to be enrolled in a certified electrician apprenticeship program. A basic understanding of electrical theory and safety is crucial, and you must be willing to work in outdoor and industrial environments.

Physical fitness is important as the job requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and climb ladders. Strong communication and team collaboration skills are also essential, as you’ll be working closely with other team members on a daily basis. You will also need a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
