What You’ll Do as an Apprentice Electrician

As an Apprentice Electrician at EV Careers in Brookhaven, MS, you’ll be a vital part of our team, working on a variety of construction projects. Your role will primarily involve assisting in the installation and testing of EV charging stations, one of our current major projects in the city. You’ll also be responsible for tasks such as pulling wire and bending conduit under supervision.

Your Daily Tasks as an Apprentice Electrician

Your day-to-day will be filled with hands-on tasks and learning opportunities. In addition to assisting with EV charging station installations, you’ll also maintain tools and cleanliness at the worksite. You’ll learn to read blueprints and circuit diagrams, and follow NEC guidelines for low-voltage and 240V installations.

You’ll attend weekly safety meetings and hands-on training sessions to ensure you’re always up-to-date on the latest safety protocols and techniques. Furthermore, you’ll have the chance to shadow journeyman electricians during EVSE installations and repairs, a great opportunity to learn from seasoned professionals.

Other common daily activities include troubleshooting electrical problems, performing preventive maintenance, and assisting in the installation of electrical systems in new constructions.

What You Need to Be an Apprentice Electrician

To join us as an Apprentice Electrician, you must be enrolled in a certified electrician apprenticeship program. A basic understanding of electrical theory and safety is essential, and you should be prepared to work in outdoor and industrial environments.

Physical ability is also important, as the role often requires lifting up to 50 lbs and climbing ladders. Strong communication and team collaboration skills are a must, as you’ll be working closely with a diverse group of professionals. Lastly, you’ll need a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

While not required, having 2-5 years of experience in the field would be a significant advantage.
